Wet Paintbrushes

I've always made things, painted things, designed things.
The highlights of my week as a child were Blue Peter and Take Hart, and I had a bedroom full of cardboard boxes, full of collected bits of pretty paper, feathers, buttons, art materials and stuff... lots of stuff!
After completing a Foundation Course in London I studied Surface Pattern and Textiles at Art College in Somerset, it was a toss up between that and Fine Art but I was planning to go into retail as a buyer, which I did, and the course had great industry links. Buying was great, I got to travel the world and be paid to shop but it wasn't creative enough for me, I missed getting my hands dirty!
I never stopped creating but when I left retail to have a family I began to carve out time to paint and gradually my new career as an artist began to take shape.
I now paint full-time, and have done for many years, mainly in mixed media as my love of collecting things hasn't abated and my garden shed come studio is full of art materials, books, maps, music, scraps of fabric and stuff... lots of stuff!
My subject matter changes constantly depending on whether I am working on commissions, a gallery show or just experimenting and learning new techniques but it is always connected to nature. She is my muse and provides endless sources of joy and creative inspiration.
I have the best job in the world!

Nothing is ever wasted in the studio, everything gets used, upcycled and repurposed into new artworks. This section features artworks that all use discarded book pages in some way. Available directly from me or over on  Artfinder

Ebb and Flow

These musical butterflies were cut from beautiful, fragile music manuscript dating from the 1800s (larger) and the 1930s (smaller). The artwork was inspired by the mass migration of some species, "flowing" on the air currents... The butterflies are mounted on raw linen and framed in a simple black box frame. £65
