Meet The Artist

Biography

Jane is a British, process driven, mixed media artist based in Cornwall who creates vibrant, joyful multi-layered paintings.

Her work explores interconnectivity, both through the interplay of layers and media and the connections between the viewer, the wider world and the artwork itself.

Jane grew up in London and studied printed textile design in Somerset before working in the fashion industry for many years. Her textile background is still visible in her art today by her use of colour, pattern and repeated motifs.

She became known for her cartography paintings which combined vintage maps with animal portraiture and in 2019 was a finalist in Octopus Energy’s Portraits From The Precipice with her painting Swimming Against The Tide. This culminated in a group exhibition at The Royal Academy of Arts, London.

Whilst she enjoyed commercial success she felt creatively unchallenged and used Lockdown in 2020 to explore, question and challenge her creativity. And the art Jane is known for today began to be created.

Her new direction has been well received and she has exhibited widely in the UK both in person and through gallery representation.

She has had work accepted for The Royal Society of British Artists 2023 Bicentenary Exhibition, The Society of Wildlife Artists Natural Eye 2022 and 2023 exhibitions and was the winner of The Dry Red Press Award at The Royal Watercolour Society’s 2022 Exhibition.

Today, she lives and works in Looe, Cornwall and is a member of The Polperro Arts Foundation.
