Beneath The Surface
Beneath The Surface
Beneath the Surface explores layering as both a physical process and a metaphor for concealed experience, memory, and perception. Constructed through multiple layers of handprinted and hand-painted collage, acrylic paint, inks, and dry media, the work reveals and obscures fragments simultaneously, inviting the viewer to look beyond the immediate image. The phrase “beneath the surface” suggests hidden depths, and within the painting this exists materially, as well as conceptually. Layers are built, partially concealed, disrupted, and re-emerge through the surface, creating a visual memory of marks, textures and traces of process. The physical structure of the painting becomes integral to its meaning. My landscapes represent nowhere and everywhere and through texture, transparency, and layered interventions, the painting invites viewers to consider their own associations, memories, and emotional responses to the subject, and to reflect on what may lie hidden beneath what is immediately visible.
This is a many layered painting, encompassing handprinted and hand painted collaged pieces, acrylic paint, inks and dry media.
