Geological Inspiration

Day 5 of mixed media sketching which has lasted for three days! I picked the beach to study and I can see myself using these as reference in the future so I took my time.

Hannafore Beach, in front of our house, is really rocky, great for rock pooling! Geologically it shows signs of glacial striation and the overall beach is comprised of shingle (crushed shells and slate mainly) the rocky reefs and course sand and seaweed, lots and lots of seaweed. There are so many different types that it would be a project on its own to study them. My quick, intuitive thumbnails were honing in on contrasts in textures and marks and so these, along with exploring the beach colours became my focus.
